MonaLisa Touch® Q & A
What does MonaLisa Touch vaginal revitalization do?
Vaginal revitalization with the MonaLisa Touch helps with a variety of female wellness concerns, including:
- Vaginal atrophy
- Vaginal dryness
- Vaginal itching
- Pain during intercourse
- Urinary incontinence
This treatment can improve the appearance of the outer vagina, as well as restoring function.
What is MonaLisa Touch vaginal revitalization treatment like?
The treatment is comfortable and quick, so no anesthesia is needed. While you lay in a pelvic exam position, Dr. Heaton moves the MonaLisa Touch wand around the outer vaginal tissue, and then in the vaginal canal.
The treatment takes only a few minutes, and you can get back to your usual routine within one to three days.
How does vaginal revitalization work?
The MonaLisa Touch laser removes many microscopic columns of tissue in a scattered pattern while heating the dermal layer where you make new collagen. The majority of your vaginal tissue remains intact.
The tissue removal and heating prompt collagen remodeling, which prevents estrogen levels in your vagina from dropping and returns your vaginal tissue to its previous condition.
You might notice improved tightness almost right away, and other symptoms gradually improve. The new collagen appears within a month, and then continues growing for up to a year.
How many MonaLisa Touch treatments do I need?
It depends on your needs. Your care provider at Brian W. Heaton, MD, PC discusses all your concerns and symptoms with you to create a treatment plan before your first session.
In general, most vaginal revitalization patients get the best results with a series of three treatments, each 40-60 days apart. After that, a yearly maintenance treatment is usually recommended.*
